About Us

99¢ Only Stores is a unique deep-discount retailer of primarily name-brand consumable general merchandise.  We are the oldest single-price retail chain in the country.  We are "The Right Store...Now More Than Ever!"  We have always been committed to delivering great value to our customers, but now more than ever, our customers are relying on us to help them make ends meet as they struggle with increasing costs of daily necessities.

Our vision is to be America’s favorite and best run deep-discount store!  Our mission is to provide an exciting primary shopping destination for price-sensitive consumers, and a fun treasure-hunt shopping experience for other value conscious consumers. We are driven to accomplish this mission with a core strategy to offer only excellent values on a wide selection of quality food and basic household items with a focus on name brands and an exciting assortment of surprises, all for 99.99¢!

Our stores are attractively merchandised, clean, full service "destination" locations that offer customers significant value on their everyday household needs in an exciting shopping environment. Merchandise encompasses a wide array of name-brand closeout and regularly available consumable products including food and beverages such as: produce, deli, and other basic grocery items, health and beauty care, and household supplies.

From our first store opening in 1982, our chain of 99¢ Only Stores has expanded to over 281 stores; 199 in California, 46 in Texas, 24 in Arizona, and 12 in Nevada. The stores that were open for a full year averaged 21,722 square feet and generated average net sales per estimated sellable square foot of $263 and average net sales per store of $4.5 million. For fiscal 2008, total sales were $1.2 billion.

99Cent

Renowned photographer Andreas Gursky describes his famous "99 Cent" photo as aisles of brightly packaged merchandise fused into a perfectly ordered whole. This 11 by 7 foot photo has been displayed in the New York Museum of Modern Art, as well as museums in Paris, London, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. It was taken in 1999 at the 99¢ Only Stores located on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California. This photograph recently sold for over $3,346,456!
